Gingerbread Frosting Mystery
Age: 7 (2007)

Hi! My name is Ruby. I am called Ruby because I have a red nose that glows. My big brother is called Chocolate because he loves eating chocolate. Freedom is my toddler brother. He is called Freedom because he doesn't have to do any work.

One day while we were sleeping, something happened. "Oh, no! The frosting is gone!" I said. "So is all the chocolate!" said Chocolate. Now we won't have any clothes or food. The only thing they had for clothes was ginger and cinnamon. They only had jelly to eat, instead of the wonderful chocolate that Chocolate made. Jelly was their second least favorite food. After breakfast we set off to find the frosting and the chocolate. Freedom also came along. I was the leader. Chocolate brought a notebook and a pencil, just in case we might find some clues. I was going to write the clues down so I would not forget them.

We were very careful not to be seen. We went through a secret passage way. That secret passage way was through the wall. We poked holes so we could see what was going on outside the wall. We looked in every hole until we looked through a hole with a picture of the kitchen sink. Inside the sink there was a bowl with a little bit of frosting and chocolate in it. Chocolate wrote: found frosting and chocolate in a bowl. Then we set off again to find the rest of the chocolate and frosting. We looked everywhere except in the refrigerator. I said "Let's dress warmly, because we need to get inside the refrigerator. "Do we have to?" asked Chocolate. Yes, I said. It's the only place we haven't checked. So we all dressed warmly. I helped Freedom. Then we went through the door that lead us right next to the refrigerator. After a minute, a mom named Mrs. Biggs opened the refrigerator door. We jumped inside the refrigerator. Freedom had never seen people before but he knew not to scream. We hid in the ice. Mrs. Biggs took ice cream out of the refrigerator. After Mrs. Biggs closed the door, we jumped out of the ice and looked around. Then Freedom said "Look!" Chocolate and I looked where Freedom was pointing. And guess what! We saw a pop-up circle covered with frosting and chocolate! "Good going Freedom!!" I said. "But how are we going to carry it home?" asked Chocolate. I said "Let's keep using cinnamon, ginger, and jelly for clothes and food. "We can wait until Mrs. Biggs buys more frosting. Maybe she will buy some colored frosting" said Chocolate. "And maybe my ingredients for making more chocolate." added Chocolate. "Yeah! That's a great idea!" said Chocolate. Then they added an "OK!"

So a week passed. Then another week passed. They waited for frosting and chocolate. One day Mrs. Biggs went out shopping. On Mrs. Biggs's shopping list were vegetables, frosting, and the ingredients for chocolate. Off she went shopping. Freedom, Chocolate, and I were looking through the holes in the wall. "Did you see what was on the list?" asked Chocolate. "It said frosting and chocolate!" squealed. At 1:53 pm Mrs. Biggs came home with a big bag. Chocolate, Freedom and I opened the door of the refrigerator a little bit. Mrs. Biggs put the frosting and chocolate in the refrigerator very close to where we were hiding. Then she went away. We shouted, "Hurray! Hurray!" We changed back into frosting. Chocolate made some delicious chocolate. What a surprise we had! The chocolate was white, and the frosting was all colored! We had a big surprise, so we celebrated our surprise, and the Gingerbread Family lived a very good life.
